It's never a straight picture but always a composite. It is cut up by time and left to rot unless an enterprising person comes along and puts it together. The straight picture can lie or be a front for lies. The comprehenisive picture is needed for the truth. It is greater than the lies because it admits of all vitality that was engaged, not our simple abstraction of it.
The pieces are conjoined by what is left out.
