Chapter 1

SPACE

So we’re flying and crud is just leaving the body and mind and we sail into this vortex and that singularity and another node just ramming it until we are cleansed so to say, made empty, nude to a billion eyes and lousy with strange wonderments. I’m going, man, if I had only known but as suddenly no, I do know it now so I am the man who knows it now.

I had long stopped looking for the Earth. It had lost its suppleness and become a pinprick lost in thousands of other pinpricks. It was as though I had come to the boundary of my own territory and to go further would give me that awful sense of dread that I would get as a kid when my parents took me on vacation and we rumbled into a new town and I saw all the kids running around as competitors or as better than me and started to shrivel inside and want to be in the home, in my comforts.
