ONE WORLD
by David Eide .

They talk of one world like they own it.
I and the massive crowd are impressed.
We will live in a photon and know everything.

Excellent.

I walk away through empty lots,
through the shadows that jump and dance
throughout the shrunken city. Dozens
of dead roads pass through the eyes
of guileless children, through the universe
of sign posts where we are all prodded
to a tinkling sort of laugh.

Will one world press hungry children into one dusty road?
Will wonder be stripped of its privacy and forced to wear the
stinking skin of
         greed?
