THE UPPER FALLS
by David Eide .

Nudely proud of his nakedness the poet
enters the waters of the weary mountain.

No more will the mind prevail or move the frigid body
When the naked body slides into the habitat of ancient
         dream.

Who of the species douses the poet with ice rather than fire?
Who of the species tries to buy off the poet in his naked state?

"Wind, make no warning to the mad species; let the poet fly naked to the sleeping
         villages."
