LAMENTATIONS

by David Eide

He thinks of the fifty minds that have
moved him at the level life is intended to be
moved.  And when he returns to walk the
street, there is liveliness among the
eternal people. Oh, they are always here. I
have met them in other guises and some
of them I must watch out for . Giant
thoughts and quaint characters spin
through the pets mid as he goes to the
store to buy a baguette and cheese.
Is this unhappy state suspected by the
stranger who glances at him?  He is
unhappy because he is not sure whether
his great joy is simply illusion, simple desire
to escape the pressing issue of the day,
simple desire to escape the common
responsibilities of life.
