RED MUSE POEMS

By David Eide

Before Christmas

Beautiful haughty Muse
Stern, with a bit of Red Cruelty
disguised, like her hair, in the wild
     florrid wallpaper.

Have many times does a man have to say
I love you? How many? You don't
want to believe you can be loved, it's
easier. Love? You say, "I've fallen in love
before, it's easy...what does it get you?"

You have a point: Men should be easy for you.
Maybe they are too easy; maybe you need a man who
            truly defies you.

You should be part of a grand story where you are
visited by the ghosts of past, present, and future
to show you how wonderful things really are.

"But time slips away and everything is dragged down with it."

"But that is the necessity of love Muse. Love is eternity.
It connects."
