When a people is ignorant of history they can't see anything but their own desires. And that is the stuff of history itself. If a people uses history in order to break the habits of thought that bring nations to the verge of conflict, then they have a fighting chance. That is one of the gauntlets thrown at the feet of thinking people by the inhuman weapons. Among other things these weapons highlight the terrible concatenation of events, unforeseen, that results in mass murder, waste and the other bad legacies of the past century. And what lesson is learned? That the mass murder and waste can be organized and set into motion by relatively small groups of people. A "nuclear war" is so irrational that sometimes it appears inevitable, inexorable. The weapon is not a sub category of technology but on the dark side of the manifestation of technology. As it solves one problem, further down the road it creates its own problems and challenges. And the nuclear problem is one that eludes thorough comprehension, yet absorbs the mind fully so it can't think on anything else, especially hopeful and progressive thoughts. That's one of the secrets of its evil.
