POEMS FOR NOONE
By David Eide

City Song
We had seen them in distant cities murmuring to prepare the sails,
“where has the woman gone who we heard ten miles from shore?”
They will have to wait for night to fall, falling night brings the pole star.
And directs them to the ancient city surrounded by mundane waterways.
We had gathered from the castlements, earthen works and dungeons
To hear the unattainable song from the woman who will not appear.
