RED MUSE POEMS

By David Eide

A night
hovering in the
   eyes/

as the lover bends
a star at the tip
of his tongue/

there is a taste of a sun
even before he has tasted her/
jubilee of wild music
waits behind closed eyes

Come Sleeping Beauty and dance with me
Let the first gesture be a kiss/

Dance and jive in the woods
Pull signs from the trees
Ride owls to the horizon
Bring the lover to the river
Glide on the promise of the first kiss

the telling kiss

where worlds hide waiting for a kiss
and the ocean is languid blood; where
joyful people float on
ice/
down the thousand miles of an eye

into a heart of love

a potential
a continent of undiscovered earths
where wild animals roam
where lovers drop into empty oceans
filled with every twist and moan.

The night of hungry smiles
The night of tumbling shadows
The night where beauty does not sleep
The night where a kiss hangs on lovers lips/
